Living in Greece, in a country that has one of the highest rates of sunshine in Europe, means, among other things, that we must be extra careful with the health of our skin as the exposure to sunlight is huge in every season. A simple walk during the day or a sports activity outdoors, it is likely to cause damage on our exposed body parts, especially if you have sensitive skin. Greece still has high rates of melanoma (skin cancer caused by excessive exposure to the sun) and is very important to be protected.

Sunscreens are nowadays a routine not only during vacations but on everyday life too. For prolonged sun exposure, whether it be relaxing by the pool or going out for a stroll, you should be looking for a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30. You should also make sure you apply 15-20 minutes before heading outside, as sunscreen that is applied in direct sunlight may evaporate before it has a chance to bond with the skin, making it less effective. Be aware that certain medications (such as antibiotics), dramatically increase sun sensitivity.
