Pizza nights are happening quite often around our house, as we all adore pizza. So when it comes to find the perfect snack for kids playdates, I always make pizza rolls. I had the idea to turn pizza dough into pizza rolls when I was planning my son’s Minions birthday party. I was thrilled with how well they turned out and that everybody loved them but I never got around to post the recipe. So here it is. Not only are these perfect for an appetizer tray but make a fantastic weeknight meal too. Feel free to add any other ingredients you like such as olives, bacon, feta cheese, onions, sausage slices.
PIZZA ROLLS
Makes 24 pieces
Preparation: 15 minutes – Waiting: 20 minutes – Baking: 25 minutes
INGREDIENTS
200 gr. sliced smoked turkey, cut into cubes
1 green pepper, cut into cubes
400 gr gouda or mozzarella cheese, grated (plus some extra for the topping)
olive oil
1 jar pizza sauce
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 50oC. Dust your working surface with some flour, divide the dough into two pieces and and roll out each piece into a 40-50 cm rectangular, about 1 inch thin. Spread the sauce over the dough, smoothing it out with the back of a spoon. Add the turkey, green pepper and grated cheese. Roll into a log, starting from the wider side and seal edge with some water. Cut each log into 12 equal slices.
Line a baking pan with parchment paper and transfer the pizza rolls to the pan, placing them at equal distances between them. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheese and drizzle with some olive oil. Place them in the oven and let them rise for 20 minutes. When ready, without opening the oven door, turn up the temperature to 180oC. Bake for another 20-25 minutes, until golden on both top and bottom. Serve hot.
